The Georgian Military Highway to the Russian border, and a fourteenth-century church at 2,170 metres with Mount Kazbek behind it.
This is the drive people come to Georgia for. The Military Highway climbs through Ananuri fortress and the Jvari Pass to Stepantsminda, and the road itself is the attraction for most of the way.
Gergeti Trinity Church sits above the town with Mount Kazbek at 5,054 metres behind it when the cloud lifts. The final ascent is a rough track — this tour requires a 4x4 and the driver will take you up it.
Be realistic about the day: seven hours of driving plus stops means leaving early and returning late. From November to April the pass can close at short notice, and we will move or refund rather than risk it.
